I joined QCRI because the institution offers unique and great opportunities for scientists to realize their research ideas.
The main focus of Jorge's research at QCRI is infrastructure and algorithms that allow performing data analytics on a large scale. Jorge is also researching for new ways of storing and accessing big data sets to enable scalable data analytics.
Before joining QCRI, Jorge was a research associate at the Information Systems Group at Saarland University working with Jens Dittrich. At Saarland University, Jorge's research interests were mainly on big data management and he was part of the Hadoop++ project. Prior to moving to the University of Saarland, he worked as a research engineer at INRIA, where he worked with Patrick Valduriez and Philippe Lamarre. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in computer science from the University of Nantes, France. During his Ph.D., Jorge's research interests were mainly in distributed data management.
