Research Focus at QCRI

At QCRI, Ahmed works on projects related to natural language processing in the areas of machine translation, information retrieval and extraction with emphasis on applications related to the Arabic language and its dialects. In addition, he contributes to building resources such as QED and WAW corpus and speech translation, among other tools and resources.

His research areas include Arabic language technologies, machine translation, artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Previous Experience

Prior to joining QCRI, Ahmed Abdelali worked for the office of Vice President for Research, New Mexico State University (NMSU). Since he joined NMSU in 2000, he worked as computer specialist for CRL, PSL where he contributed to research projects including DRPA funded projects (Expedition, AQUAINT, GALE), Sandia (LDRD), ONR among others. He worked for the Office of Grants and Contracts in 2008 where he led the implementation of a new Research management system. He published and co-authored research papers in NLP areas such as Information Retrieval, Information Extraction and Machine Translation.
