I joined QCRI because the institution offers unique and great opportunities for scientists to realize their research ideas.

Research Focus at QCRI

The main focus of Jorge's research at QCRI is infrastructure and algorithms that allow performing data analytics on a large scale. Jorge is also researching for new ways of storing and accessing big data sets to enable scalable data analytics.

Previous Experience

Before joining QCRI, Jorge was a research associate at the Information Systems Group at Saarland University working with Jens Dittrich. At Saarland University, Jorge's research interests were mainly on big data management and he was part of the Hadoop++ project. Prior to moving to the University of Saarland, he worked as a research engineer at INRIA, where he worked with Patrick Valduriez and Philippe Lamarre. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in computer science from the University of Nantes, France. During his Ph.D., Jorge's research interests were mainly in distributed data management.

Professional Experience

  • Research Associate: Information System Group, Saarland University (2009 – 2012)
  • Research Engineer: INRIA-Rennes (2008 – 2009)
  • Research Assistant: INRIA and University of Nantes (2004 – 2008)

Professional Associations and Awards

  • Reviewer for multiple conferences (VLDB, SIGMOD, ICDE, EDBT, ...)
  • Awarded the highest honor in the M.Sc. Program at the Centre for Computing Research at the National Polytechnic Institute of Mexico

Education

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, University of Nantes, France, 2008
