After completing his MSc degree from Cairo University, Ali El-Kahki joined QCRI as an intern for 5 months.

Ali worked on topic modeling, tweet processing, and hashtag prediction under the supervision of Dr. Kareem Darwish, a QCRI senior scientist at the Arabic Language Technologies.

Kareem says “Ali’s achievements during the few months at QCRI speak for themselves: participation in the TREC-2011 Microblog, track with an ensuing paper and a full paper EMNLP 2011.”

Also Ali explains: “I learned a lot from working with world class researchers in an innovative environment, I am fortunate to have had such an opportunity.” His experience at QCRI propelled him to gain admission to the Ph.D. program at Columbia University, where he will be working in the natural language processing under the supervision of Mona Diab and Michael Collins.
